Joke of the Month
A little old lady goes into the store to do some shopping. She is bewildered over the large selection of toilet paper. "Pardon me, sir," she says to the store manager, "but can you explain the differences in all these toilet papers?" "Well," he replies pointing out one brand, "this is as soft as a baby's bottom. It's £1.50 per roll." He grabs another and says, "This is nice and soft, strong but gentle, and it's £1.00 a roll." Pointing to the bottom shelf he tells her, "We call that our No Name brand, and it's 20 pence per roll." "Give me the No Name," she says. She comes back about a week later, seeks out the manager and says, "Hey! I've got a name for your No Name toilet paper. I call it John Wayne." "Why?" he asks. "Because it's rough, it's tough and it don't take crap from anybody!"

HEALTH & SAFETY

The Radioactive Material (Road Transport) Regulations 2002
The 2002 regulations came into force on 7 June, and the 1996 regulations are revoked. The Applied Inspection 'Shipper's Certificate for Radioactive Materials' has been revised, and should now be used for all consignments. The other significant change relates to the stainless steel vehicle sign, which is no longer required. It has been replaced by the ADR orange plate, which must be fitted to the vehicle front and rear.

Smoking Policy
In order to comply with current legislation all Applied Inspection premises must be designated 'No Smoking' areas. Smoking within the buildings is prohibited, but is allowed outside in car parks (except at Burton adjacent to the fuel filler area!). Please remember to wash your hands before smoking especially after handling lead, and please remember to fully extinguish cigarette butts before disposing of them. If anyone has difficulty in complying with this please contact John Morris on 07814 021345. Section 9.0 of the Health and Safety Rules will be amended.

Fire Drills
In compliance with the Fire Protection Act 1971 fire drills will be carried out at all Applied Inspection premises at six monthly intervals. Records of the date, time and reaction time for the drill must be maintained. Any actions for improvement raised by the drill must be implemented. When a fire alarm is raised:

  1. Shut down and switch off all electrical machines.
  2. Leave the premises by the nearest available exit.
  3. Report to the assembly point.
